Innovation, high-quality products for doors and maintaining high service standards characterizes the Moenchengladbach, Germany-based hinge manufacturer Dr. Hahn GmbH & Co. KG and its development over the years. Founded in 1961 by Dr. Walter Hahn, the company is now managed by his sons Michael and Walter Hahn.

 The medium-size company has managed to make a name for itself internationally under the Dr. Hahn brand with its small but high-quality product range for doors. The door hinge specialist has continued to expand its sales activities year after year. While the annual turnover in 2014 amounted to EUR 52.7 million, the company had an annual turnover of EUR 54.0 million in 2016. The annual turnover in 2020 is about 57 million.

The number of employees has also grown to 400 persons in 2020. In addition to Central and Eastern Europe, Dr. Hahn’s sales markets nowadays include Asia and America.

From First Idea to Customer

From the first idea through to surface refinement, all products are manufactured using state-of-the-art equipment at our Moenchengladbach factory in Germany. That includes hinges for metal and PVCU doors.

High standards backed up by constant quality control, ground-breaking new developments such as the first aluminium door hinges for front-side mounting have quickly made Dr. Hahn one of the market leaders in this segment.

Maintaining this position over the long term has only been possible thanks to the qualifications of our employees and the particular quality of our products. Besides internal quality assurance of every single element, long-term stress tests and inspections are performed by approved external testing laboratories. As a result, it is possible to say that Dr. Hahn hinges are of “high quality” to the fullest extent.

Successful Presentation of New Products

Over the past few years, Dr. Hahn has impressively demonstrated why it ranks among the market leaders of this segment. More than 20 new products with genuine innovations and a wide variety of patents have been presented to customers.

 For instance, our concealed VL Hinge ST for steel doors and VL Hinge AL for aluminium doors have drummed up a lot of interest. Case in point, the VL Hinge ST was selected by the renown Design Centre NRW for the 2002 red dot product design award during its international red dot award competition.

Growth and Environmental Protection

All investments are based primarily on that fact that the company’s premises are located in an area that is designated as a water protection area. In many of its environmental protection precautions, Dr. Hahn exceeds the legal requirements. For instance, machine tools are set up in stainless steel basins to protect the groundwater, coolant is cleaned in a closed loop and circulated back to the machinery, water consumption has been reduced by 75% since 2000 and the halls are also heated with an energy-saving heat recovery system.
